Gone are the days of mother-in-law taunting the daughter-in-law to irritate. She now gets her kin knifed on a highway by her henchmen.

I have never watched a Telugu movie but have seen quite a few Telugu videos and stills where the woman is just shown as a prop to the hero. And not just the Telugu movies the daily soaps on the most reputed channels depict women in the most un-realistic ways! It makes the audience like me, barf off when i see the mangal sutra-vermilion studded wives longing for their husband¿s long life! Never are serials made on taking strong themes of corruption, daily commuting and health care? How much are we going to tolerate such a buffoonery!

Not just the serials, even Telugu movies and almost all South Indian movies portray women as just sex objects. I can¿t help feeling the perverted minds at work when movies are created and camera shots are planned. Good scriptwriters never write such anti-women stories.

While I agree with the writer¿s anguish at the portrayal of women in the serials, we must concede that these serials are the staple diets of women themselves. Once women realise the evil power of these serials and avoid watching them things will change.

Protest against award
Siddharth Varadarajan of the Hindu has written to the jury which gave the Indian News Broadcasting Award for News Reporter of the Year 2010, Hindi, to Neeta Sharma of NDTV India, protesting at the choice. He says this was the reporter who had written a false story in the Hindustan Times calling Iftikhar Gilani an ISI agent some years ago. The story contributed to the journalist's incarceration and caused Gilani no end of trouble, but the reporter and the paper never published an apology for it.
Reason for attacks?
The blog Churimuri has a long post which seeks to link the Times of India's daily attacks on the Commonwealth Games with the fact that the paper proposed a deal to the CWG authorities which the latter did not bite.  The paper's executives apparently wrote to Suresh Kalmadi in November last year presenting a comprehensive print proposal (for Times of India, Navbharat Times, Maharashtra Times, Mirror and Sandhya Times) for  Rs 12 cror .. more>>
