SC on The Wire's writ

IN Media Watch Briefs | 13/04/2018

The Supreme Court decided on April 12 to send the Wire's writ seeking quashing of the criminal defamation case initiated against it by Jay Shah, son of BJP president Amit Shah, to another bench of the Supreme Court, as the same judges were  also involved in the ongoing Aadhaar matter. The Wire was appealing the Gujarat high court’s refusal to quash the criminal proceedings. In 3 years the site has earned 11 defamation cases (5 criminal) – six from Adani, two from Jay Shah, two from Rajeev Chandrasekhar and one from SubhashChandra of ZeeTV (now withdrawn).
